Your Mission Impossible - A Guide to Finding and Fulfilling Your Life Purpose

leslie householder’s posts spiritual beliefs Jul 29, 2018

There is nothing more deeply fulfilling than discovering and stepping into your divine purpose. You were born with a mission—something only you can accomplish—and this guide is here to help you find the courage to pursue it with intention and heart.

The thoughts below are inspired by the Mission Impossible and Other Outrageous Lies podcast episode.

Mission Blockers: What Gets in the Way?

There are two major obstacles that tend to block us from discovering and fulfilling our life’s mission:

  • Distractions

  • Lack of resources

Distractions come in many forms—and they’re sneaky. Media, social media, video games, drama, even something as small as a pimple can pull us off course. But perhaps the biggest influence of all? Your friends. The people you spend the most time with can either lift you toward your purpose or lead you away from it. Choose friends who are also searching for and committed to fulfilling their own life’s mission.

Another big distraction is inadequacy—that nagging feeling of not being enough. You might think, “Who am I to make a difference?” The world will try to convince you that you're not smart enough, capable enough, or important enough. But that’s a lie. Everyone struggles with feelings of inferiority at some point. Whether it’s “because of what happened to me,” or “because I’m just different,” we all have our reasons. But guess what? You don’t have to believe them.

You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just focus on your next step. Pause, connect with the vision you have for your life—how you want to feel at the end of your journey—and your instincts will guide you. You might not realize it in the moment, but those small actions you take today are inspired. And one day, you’ll look back and think, “Wow… look what I’ve done.” And others will be inspired by your story, too.

It’s not about doing everything perfectly. Sometimes you’ll fumble, take detours, or feel unsure of yourself. That’s okay. When you are ready, reconnect with your vision and just take the next right step.

When I was 12, I had a moment of clarity—I suddenly knew I was part of a divine family and that I had a mission to fulfill. All those distractions? They fell away. Something in me woke up.

And if you’re ever feeling lost or inadequate, spend 20 quiet minutes in heartfelt conversation with your Creator. That connection is one of the most powerful ways to clear away distractions and build your self-worth. Because when you’ve felt God’s presence in your life, it becomes nearly impossible to feel unimportant. You’ll know—deep down—that you matter.

Trust the Process

There is an unseen power guiding you to your mission. You don’t need to panic, and you don’t need to have every resource in place. Just take a deep breath, and trust. Life has a way of giving you the experiences you need to grow into your purpose. You’re already on that path, whether you realize it or not.

Make it your mission to find your “mission impossible.” Because at the end of your life, it’s those meaningful, courageous choices you’ll remember. The ones where you did the hard thing, the scary thing. That’s what it means to step into your purpose.

Facing Change

Change is life’s only constant. Things will shift, break, transform—and sometimes all at once.

When the unexpected happens, the best thing you can do is relax. A calm heart makes room for inspiration. That still small voice inside you will whisper, “It’s okay. This is part of the plan. You’ll look back on this moment and see how it prepared you for the leadership role ahead.”

These experiences, even the painful ones, shape you. They strengthen you. They teach you flexibility and resilience.

“Blessed are the flexible, for they shalt not be bent out of shape.”

Stay flexible. Stay open. This journey isn’t about avoiding hardship—it’s about being ready to respond with grace, growth, and purpose.

Open Mind, Open Path

“In times of change, the learners will inherit the Earth while the learned will find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.” —Eric Hoffer

When I studied math in college, Non-Euclidean geometry taught me problem-solving in a whole new way. I learned to start with my objective, take stock of what I did have, express gratitude, learn from others, and just keep going.

That approach has stayed with me. No matter what you’re facing, you already have everything you need to take the next right step. Often, your biggest challenges contain the seeds of your greatest breakthroughs.

Things won’t always go as planned—but each experience awakens something new in you. Something you didn’t know you had.

Receiving Answers

If you’re unsure where to go next, start with a question.

Instead of asking, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” try something simpler like, “Should I call George today?” One is overwhelming. The other leaves space for inspiration and clear direction.

The more specific your question, the more easily answers can come. Sometimes it’s just a quiet yes or no, but that’s all you need to take the next right step.

The path to your mission is simpler than you think. It will take you to the best places life has to offer—if you’re willing to let go of fear, stop trying to fit in, and just trust the journey.

When your heart nudges you to leap—leap. And trust that God will carry you.

You are a leader. A dreamer. You weren’t made to live small or hidden. Of course there will be trials. There will be moments when you feel dashed against the rocks, unsure if you can go on. But those are the moments that test your courage.

Let go. Trust the flow of life. One day, people will look at your story and say,

“Wow. A person like us… and look how they fly.”
