Why It Is So Great When Something Bad Happens?

The Law of Polarity teaches that everything has an opposite—and not just any opposite, but one of equal measure. If you walk five steps to the right, it takes five steps to the left to get back. What goes up must come down the same distance. This principle applies to everything in life.

Whatever we label as “good” has an equal “bad” to it—and vice versa. But here’s the key: we are the ones who assign the meaning.

Corrie Ten Boom shared a powerful example from her time in a concentration camp. She and her sister were miserable because their beds were infested with fleas. They hated them. Couldn’t do anything about them. But later they realized—those fleas were a blessing. Because of them, their bunkhouse was the only one the German soldiers didn’t enter. That meant they were able to study the Bible without interference. What once seemed unbearable suddenly became incredible. The fleas were bad... and also good.

A much smaller example from my own life happened just yesterday. I have a 2-year-old and a nursing 5-month-old who still wakes up multiple times a night. Naps have been crucial for my survival lately.

So there I was, deep in much-needed rest, when the doorbell rang.

I didn’t get up—I was too exhausted—but the damage was done. I was wide awake, and couldn’t fall back asleep.

My first instinct? Frustration. Major frustration. And if I had leaned into that frustration, I would have stayed in bed, stewing, growing more and more anxious that I wasn’t sleeping… which has happened so many times before, I’ve lost count.

But instead, I paused and remembered: the Law of Polarity. If something feels bad, it also contains something equally good.

So I got up. I looked for the good.

And what I found? A quiet hour to myself—to meditate, visualize, and get a little work done. By the end of nap time, I was more energized than I would have been with the nap!

Everything that comes our way is simply data. We decide what it means. We attach the label: good or bad.

By law, everything has both—equal parts good and bad. That means when something feels really bad, there’s also just as much really good hiding inside it. The trick is to look for it. Focus on it. Choose your thoughts carefully, always.

Start practicing this now. Look for something great in your current situation—no matter how small.

And when all else fails? Remember the ultimate fallback benefit:
"I learned something."
Because at the end of the day, that’s what life is really about: growth, learning, transformation.

So go on—what can you find good in right now?

To success!

Are you ready for a change for the better in your life?
Is it time?
