The Rototiller We Didn't Get

Bob Proctor was the first to explain the Vacuum Law of Prosperity to me. He told a story about his Aunt Marge, who once complained she hated her curtains. Taking a bit of a risk, Bob replied, “No, you don’t. You actually quite like them.” She was caught off guard. “How can you say that?” she asked. Bob explained that if she truly no longer resonated with those curtains, she would’ve gotten rid of them long ago.

He went on to teach her about the Vacuum Law of Prosperity—that when you create space in your life by letting go of what no longer serves you, you make room for something better to come in. He coached her to give the old curtains away, promising that “by law,” she’d get the curtains she truly wanted.

She pushed back. “But I don’t have the money for new curtains.”

“Just give them away,” he said. “You’ll be surprised what happens.”

Sure enough, when Bob visited again later, she proudly showed off her new curtains. The Vacuum Law had done its work.

Well, this past spring, my wife learned that lesson in a dramatic—and unforgettable—way.

It all started with spring cleaning… which, as usual, meant a garage sale was coming. As we sorted boxes and unearthed forgotten treasures, I had an idea.

“Honey,” I said, trying to get her attention while she was deep in a box of old stuff.

“Hm?” she murmured.

“I think we should do the garage sale like always… but instead of selling anything, I think we should give it all away.”

She looked up, confused. “What?”

“We’ve been so blessed lately,” I said. “We don’t need the money. Let’s show our gratitude. Let’s practice the Vacuum Law of Prosperity. Let’s make space and bless others by giving it all away.”

I had just heard Bob’s story about his Aunt Marge, and I remember him saying he felt sorry for people who did garage sales just for money, because they didn’t understand the law.

She paused, then smiled and said, “Okay. Besides, there are a lot of people we can help right now.”

Fast forward a few days. The “garage sale” was underway, only... there were price tags on a few items.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Oh, I’m marking prices. I figured I could raise a little money to buy a rototiller for the garden,” she explained. “We’ll still give most of it away, but I need a few hundred dollars for the tiller…”

I could hear the hope in her voice, but she also noticed the disappointment in mine.

Gently, I offered, “How about we stick with the original plan—give it all away. I really believe we’ll see a miracle if we fully test the Vacuum Law. And if nothing happens, I’ll buy you the rototiller myself.”

She considered it... and agreed.

What happened that morning was nothing short of remarkable.

People were overwhelmed by our generosity. Items we no longer needed were treasures to them. Some tried to hand us money anyway. Many hugged us. A few cried. They kept asking why we were doing this. We simply told them we’d been blessed and wanted to give back.

Then, the miracle.

A man approached me and asked, “Hey, do you know anyone who could use a garden tractor? I’ve got one I feel like I should give away.”

I froze.

I grabbed my wife’s sleeve as she passed by with a box.
“Hon,” I said, “you need to talk to this guy.”

She set the box down and turned to listen. The man repeated his question. A look of disbelief crossed her face.

“Yes,” she said slowly, eyes wide. “I know someone who could use it.”

“Who?” the man asked.

She smiled through tears. “Us.

That was the exact moment she remembered my words from just an hour before—my promise that something remarkable would happen if we tested the law.

By giving away things we no longer needed, she made space in her life—not just physically, but energetically. And within an hour, not only did she receive what she had hoped for… she got more. A full garden tractor, complete with a plow-style tiller. Far more than she expected, and without spending a dime.

Coincidence? Maybe.
But given the choice, I choose to believe.
