Releasing Debt was Another Story

When I first encountered the Laws of Success, I soaked up everything I could from Leslie Householder and immediately put the principles into action. Today, I’m living in prosperity that, just a few years ago, felt like a far-off dream. Attracting money came easily for us. But releasing our debt—now that was a whole different journey.
One of my greatest desires when we started was to become completely debt free. I had heard wise counsel again and again to avoid debt, and I agreed with it wholeheartedly. So why, after six years of marriage and a significant increase in income, were we still in debt?
We’d pay it off… and then rack it up again. Sometimes in the same month.
The answer? My subconscious.
Somewhere deep inside, it had accepted a false truth: “In our world, we always stay in debt.”
One way this showed up was through a belief that debt was necessary to make money. We’d invest our cash into businesses, and then rely on credit for our living expenses. Most of the debt wasn’t frivolous—it was "justified." But it still weighed us down.
My husband would often say, “I don’t want to pay for that in cash, because we could use that money to invest and get a better return than the 3% interest on a loan.” And it made sense—logically.
But then I had a shift.
If I truly believed in abundance, then why not believe there was enough for both?
Enough cash for the investment and the purchase?
Enough to earn interest and avoid paying it?
We had proven we could increase our income. So why limit what else was possible?
One day, I’d had enough.
I made the decision to live completely debt free—and on a cash-only basis.
It was one of the most empowering experiences of my life.
And you can do it, too.
Here’s how:
1. Create a Vision Board
Activate the visual part of your brain by finding pictures that represent what you want. Mine was focused on our budget and where our money was going—fun things, investments, growth—not debt.
2. Write a Powerful Statement
Include details and your why—your motivation.
Here’s how mine went:
“It is [insert future date], and I am so excited and grateful to carry a $0 balance on my credit cards and to own all of our possessions free and clear. I love the peace and freedom that comes from having the money before I purchase something. We have so much money coming in that we are able to pay for everything in cash and invest in multiple ventures all at the same time. We own our cars, house, and everything else that is still coming free and clear. It makes us feel very prepared on our way to complete self-reliance.”
3. Reprogram Your Mind
Read your statement every single day for at least 30 days—no skipping. You’re creating new neural pathways. According to a NASA experiment, that’s how long it takes to rewire the subconscious.
4. Amplify the Power
Record your statement in your own voice and play Baroque music in the background. Listen to it daily—on walks, in the car, while cleaning. The music helps it reach your subconscious faster.
I used GotVision.com to make mine easily. (Not affiliated—just loved the product!) I also recommend Ann’s work at IdealLifeVision.com if you want to take your vision even deeper.
5. Act on Promptings
As your subconscious starts shifting, you’ll feel inspired nudges to do something. Don’t ignore them. Don’t talk yourself out of them. Just act. That’s how your new reality starts showing up.
6. Enjoy It!
Enjoy the peace, freedom, and joy of living debt free and fully in alignment with abundance.
To Success!
You’ve got this.
