The Law of Perpetual Transmutation

Perpetual Transmutation.
Let’s break it down:

Perpetual: occurring continually, continuing forever
Trans- (prefix): so or such as to change or transfer
Mutation: a significant and basic alteration

In other words: ongoing, continual change.

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation teaches that everything is either coming into physical form or moving out of it. We see this in nature—think of the water cycle. But it also applies to thoughts: the ones we give our time, energy, and emotion to are the ones that eventually take shape in our physical lives.

Early in our marriage, my husband decided to attend graduate school out of state. At the time, we owned a home purchased through a federally subsidized loan, which required the property to remain our primary residence. Since we were moving, we couldn’t rent it out or leave it vacant—not even for the 18 months we planned to be gone. So, we had to sell.

The market was decent then. Homes in our area were averaging about four months on the market. But we were only two months away from moving. Selling in that time was possible—but would it actually happen?

I knew nothing of the Law of Perpetual Transmutation back then. I didn’t know that when you hold a dream and believe in it as if it’s already real, it begins to shape the circumstances around you. But, like gravity, this law works whether we understand it or not.

What we did know was that if we were going to sell our house in time, it wouldn’t be because of our control—it would be because of our faith. So we did what we could control: we spruced up the yard, cleaned and staged the interior, and hired a realtor.

The day we hired the realtor, I wrestled with that decision. I knew I was handing over a situation that felt urgent and deeply personal to someone who had many other listings—and didn’t share my sense of urgency. I kept thinking, Would she push as hard as I would?

That’s when I had a moment of clarity: while I couldn’t control the external situation, I could choose to do the things I believed God wanted me to do. I leaned in—praying more sincerely, studying my scriptures daily, and doubling down on how I served in my church. And I believed.

Sometimes a worry would creep in: What if it doesn’t sell? What then? But I’d always land in the same place—It will.
My husband had a good job. If we couldn’t sell, we’d stay. Our life was good. But still—deep in my gut—I knew the house would sell. Even in moments of doubt, the thought always ended with: But it will sell. I just know it will.

And it did. Exactly one month after we listed it, we closed—four weeks before we had to leave.
At the time, I didn’t know this was a principle of prosperity. I just knew that the inner work—the belief, the trust, the surrender—mattered. And now I know: that process of believing in the unseen, holding the vision, and letting God move the parts I couldn’t control—that was the Law of Perpetual Transmutation at work.
