It's Just a Vacuum

My teenage son, right out of the blue, announced:
"I quit my job last week. I felt inspired to do so but I was just too afraid to tell you."
Wait—what?
He quit his job? With no new job lined up?
QUIT HIS JOB??
This means he’ll be home… more. (Cue slight anxiety attack.)
He quit a job he loved? One that was such a perfect fit?
And now—what is he expecting from us financially?
I could feel a knee-jerk reaction rising fast, but I wanted to respond instead of react. So I mentally ran to my toolbox of Universal Laws for guidance and perspective.
First, I pulled out the Law of Perpetual Transmutation… hmm, not quite right.
Then came the Law of Relativity—maybe. It reminded me there is good to be found in every situation. Encouraging.
Still searching, I glanced at the Law of Vibration—passed. (He vibed with that job, clearly.)
The Law of Polarity? That one built on the Relativity insight—yes.
Law of Rhythm? Nope, not helping.
Law of Cause and Effect? From my limited view, the effect was clear: he quit = now jobless. Yikes.
Kept flipping… Law of Gender? Nope.
Finally, I landed on one that clicked: The Vacuum Law of Prosperity.
This law says: Nature abhors a vacuum.
To make room for what you truly want, you must let go of what no longer serves you. Release with a generous heart, and the Universe will fill that space with something even better.
Oh goody—this one I could work with!
Through this lens, his joblessness wasn’t reckless—it was sacred space being made for something new. With that perspective, I found my response:
"Wow. That’s amazing! What a great thing you did. Congratulations!"
(Wait—did I just say that out loud?)
"I have full and complete confidence in you. You’re creating space to move forward—to step into something that’s even more aligned for you right now. New friendships, experiences, growth. I wouldn’t worry too much about being out of work for now. First, find the next place you need to be—then the job will follow. This is such an exciting time! I’m really proud of you!"
He was genuinely sad to have left a job he loved and confused about the prompting he felt to do it. But when I reframed it through the Vacuum Law of Prosperity—when I validated that his actions might be inspired—it brought him peace. It helped him see it wasn’t impulsive or foolish; it was preparation for something more.
The truth is, he’d grown as much as he could in the current environment. It was time to move forward. Staying would have stalled his progression.
Even my husband, who was initially upset and concerned, softened when I explained it this way. Once he saw our son’s actions as creating space for something better, everything shifted. He could see the purpose behind it.
What I’m really proud I did in this moment:
-
Turned to the Universal Laws to shape a thoughtful response, not a reaction
-
Validated that his actions may have been inspired
-
Expressed complete confidence in his ability to move forward
-
Celebrated this pivotal moment as progress
-
Found the good in a situation that initially felt stressful
-
Recognized that holding onto the job would have blocked his next step
-
Chose calm over contention
-
Gave him responsibility to find a new path—without micromanaging
-
Framed this as a rite of passage into adulthood
-
Let it go, and looked toward the future
-
Refused to feel sorry for him
-
Used the Vacuum Law of Prosperity as a teaching moment
The Vacuum Law of Prosperity teaches us that Nature abhors a vacuum. When we release what no longer serves us—even when it feels scary or uncertain—we create sacred space for what we really need to arrive.
Sometimes growth requires letting go first.
