Does life ever feel unfair?

Maybe you’ve faced more than your share of financial challenges. Maybe you’ve felt like your breakthrough was just around the corner—but somehow, that corner never comes.

In Hidden Treasures: Heaven’s Astonishing Help with Your Money Matters, Leslie Householder reveals seven powerful laws that govern the flow of blessings into your life. These laws are like the string to a kite. Without the string, we’re tossed by the wind—unstable and struggling to soar. But when we understand and live in harmony with these laws, we rise higher than we thought possible.

As we align ourselves with these principles, we begin to see God’s hand in everything. He is a God of order, and this is an orderly universe. What seems random is not random at all. These laws aren’t rigid rules meant to restrict you—they’re truths that can completely transform your life.

Have you ever violated a traffic law? How many times? How many times have you been caught? When we talk about law, it is natural to immediately think of the kind of laws with which we are most familiar. In our everyday life, we are more likely to chat with our spouse or a friend about the guy who cut us off to make an illegal lane change, or the new tax bracket that we just qualified for. These are kind of mushy laws, though. I mean, these laws are supposed to be strictly observed, but when they are not, sometimes the violator suffers a civil consequence; sometimes it seems to go unpunished.

When most of us hear that word, we think of traffic violations or tax codes. You might ask, “What kind of law are we talking about here? Isn’t this just another ‘get rich quick’ pitch?”

But the laws in this book aren’t man-made. They aren’t the kind of laws you can bend or loophole your way around. These are laws like gravity—unbreakable, absolute, always in effect whether you believe in them or not.

For example, you don’t have to believe in gravity for it to work. You can stand at the edge of a cliff, chant positive affirmations, and leap with all the faith you’ve got—but gravity still wins. “Mind over matter” is real, but only when it works in harmony with natural law.

So if some of the laws in this book seem hard to believe, just remember: it will save you from a lot of pain if you choose to believe them anyway.

I think that traffic laws should rather be called "traffic codes of conduct". Tax laws should be called "tax rules". We need them, but they aren't as dependable as the term "law" would indicate. For the sake of this course, it is important that when we say law, we are talking about something absolute, something unbreakable, something that just "is". You cannot break a law, you can only break yourself against it. If you violate the law, you will most definitely be sorry you did, and unfortunately there is no mercy if you are ignorant. The consequences will come regardless of your understanding of the law.

And while spiritual laws can carry mercy based on knowledge and intent, natural law does not. Take a baby who snatches a toy. He’s not guilty of sin—he doesn’t understand the spiritual law “thou shalt not steal.” But he is subject to natural cause and effect. The moment his older brother screams or retaliates, he learns something: choices have consequences. John 9:41 says, "Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth."

God didn’t inflict that pain; the pain was a natural result of the action. God’s desire is that we avoid pain. But He governs the universe through law, not manipulation.

Natural laws are laws that even God will not alter. He does not control the outcome of abiding or violating them. Yet he does understand them perfectly, and tries to teach us through the scriptures and His prophets how to live in harmony with them. The beautiful thing about understanding them is that if we choose to live in harmony with them, we will also be following God's spiritual laws because they are in harmony with each other. We will find that we can enjoy happiness and peace and abundance now, and eternal joy in the hereafter. What more could God want for His children?

So, are we meant to be poor?

Some point to Matthew 10:25—“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” But in Jesus’s day, the “eye of a needle” was said to be a narrow city gate. A camel could pass through—but only on its knees, with all its burdens removed. It’s about humility, and a willingness to remove all extra baggage.

When wealth is gained in violation of natural law—on a competitive plane—someone wins only if someone else loses. But wealth gained through creativity expands the pie for everyone. This kind of prosperity aligns with both natural and spiritual law.

Ultimate success is both happiness and abundance here and now and a reward in the life to come. It’s not selfish to desire that. In fact, you should.

“Ask, and it shall be given you,” says Matthew 7:7. The reason we hesitate to ask—or don’t fully believe it—may be because we don’t understand the laws that govern the giving. But once we do, our faith in the laws can strengthen our faith in God.

Isn’t that amazing? Laws are not chains—they’re the very string that lets you fly.
