Caring Bears and Universal Laws

Most people understand that when a pebble drops into a pond, it creates ripples that travel outward until they hit the shore. But if you watch closely, you’ll see something else happen too: those ripples bounce off the land and return. I’ve heard this same principle described as Karma, or the Law of the Harvest—what we sow, we eventually reap.
When we genuinely love others—expressing that love through kindness and service—it naturally sets into motion a return of love from others. But the timing? That’s not up to us. I’ve also learned that the “effect” we receive from our “cause” may not look how we expect. Still, I trust that as I send out ripples of love, gratitude, and joy, those same emotions find their way back to me.
When I was a child, I was captivated by a show that featured fuzzy bears with symbols on their bellies—each one representing a different personality or unique gift. When someone was struggling, the bears would gather and “stare” at them. From their bellies, beams of color would shoot out and reach the heart of the hurting person, triggering a powerful change of heart. Cue the happy ending.
Apparently, those caring bears left quite an impression on me. I think of them often when I come across someone who’s struggling. As I’ve learned more about Universal Law, I got curious about their technique—and decided to try a little experiment.
I was at a convenience store when I noticed the cashier seemed especially grumpy. I gave him my cash and told him my pump number, then went outside to pump my gas. While I stood there, I “stared” at him. I sent him love, gratitude, joy, and empathy—a full rainbow of emotion. I didn’t say a word out loud, but I prayed for him silently and with my whole heart.
About five minutes later, I walked back in for my change. And he smiled. He looked me in the eye and said, “Thank you.” The shift in his energy was undeniable.
When it comes to the Law of Cause and Effect, remember: the negative returns just as effortlessly as the positive. We truly have the power to influence our circumstances and relationships—one ripple at a time.
