Most authors are fortunate if they break even on their books. Some of the best messages never get “out there” because a publisher didn’t pick it up. Well, let me tell you a story:
In the year 2000, I had an experience that changed my life, so I started teaching classes to help others experience the same kind of transformation.
But that didn’t last long, because I was a busy mother of 5 children, with another one on the way. My husband was working more than two hours away from home, while we lived in a 2-bedroom fixer-upper, trying to get it ready to sell. As you can imagine, putting events together on top of all this with any regularity was more than I could handle. But to avoid feeling guilty for not sharing what I had learned, I decided to write a book.
That’s when The Jackrabbit Factor was born.
When it was complete, I was convinced that the message it contained was important and powerful enough to have my pick of publishers – but that was not the case.
Every publisher I contacted rejected me! Eventually, out of sheer frustration, I finally threw up my hands and said, “FINE, I’ll just do it myself!!”
Through intensive research, and investing in thousands of dollars in training from various book and marketing coaches, I self-published my book and eventually became a three-time best-selling, award-winning, internationally published author of The Jackrabbit Factor, Portal to Genius, and Hidden Treasures: Heaven’s Astonishing Help with Your Money Matters. (I also became a contributing author to multiple Chicken Soup for the Soul publications.)
It was a harrowing journey, fraught with frustration, disappointment, and exhaustion, but it was also exhilarating! I learned a lot, and I know I can save you from a boatload of pain.

M Bridget Cook Burch is an author, speaker, and life coach who has been writing stories of transformation since she was young.
