The Law of Cause and Effect tells us that in nature, every cause produces an effect, and every effect has a cause. Nothing happens by chance. Newton put it simply: for every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction. When I take a step toward something, it takes a step toward me.

So, if I have a worthy goal, every action I take moves that goal closer to me. I’ve always felt a deep desire to serve others. Yet, being financially strapped most of the time, I often missed chances to serve because I was "working" or rushing to the next obligation.

Recently, I’ve come to understand that the true law of abundance and success is to live fully in the NOW and serve those I’m with to the best of my ability. My daily prayer is that whoever the Lord wants me to serve will come into my life—and that I’ll have the wisdom to recognize and act on those opportunities, fully trusting that my acts of kindness will return to me by law, providing exactly what I need when I need it.

Last Christmas, my church changed my home teaching assignment to include three very needy families. At first, I was irritated—I felt powerless because I was “just over broke” myself. But as I prayed about how to help, the answer came clearly: just go visit them, and find out. When I did, I found families who couldn’t provide any Christmas joy for their kids. As I focused on their needs and asked for help, the Lord guided me to others who could provide money and support for these families.

Within about three weeks, we were able to provide nearly everything these single mothers wanted for their children. Their tears of gratitude were unforgettable. Meanwhile, I wasn’t focused on my new business, and we weren’t sure how we’d manage our own Christmas expenses. Yet, about a month before Christmas, a windfall of sales came through, covering all our holiday needs plus living expenses through mid-February.

Now, I actively seek opportunities to serve because I truly understand the Law of the Harvest: what we sow, we reap.
