"This is the way, walk ye in it"

The Law of Polarity teaches us that everything has an opposite: yes and no, big and small, hot and cold, right and wrong. As we read in scripture, “For it must needs be that there is an opposition in all things” (2 Nephi 2:11). Without misery, there could be no true happiness. It’s the contrast that gives meaning to joy—the bitter makes the sweet even sweeter.
This principle gives us hope. It reminds us that when something hard or painful happens, there is—by law—an equal and opposite good in store. So when you’re in the middle of a trial, you can hold onto the promise that something wonderful is on its way. The greater the difficulty, the greater the potential blessing.
I’ve seen this firsthand. I’ve had my share of trials, many of which turned out to be incredible blessings in disguise. Just recently, after reading The Jackrabbit Factor and Hidden Treasures by Leslie Householder, I felt prompted to invest in a program to learn more about these universal laws. I studied diligently, with faith that God would sustain me.
But then, only a month in, I became seriously ill with a liver infection. I was completely drained, unable to work for six weeks—and I’m still healing as I write this. And yet, because I’ve been studying these laws, especially the Law of Polarity, I’m able to face this trial with a very different mindset. I believe something beautiful will come from it. Because that’s the promise.
I also find comfort in the words shared by Leslie Householder’s dad:
“God doesn’t always come when you want Him to, but He’s never late.”
And Isaiah reassures us:
“Though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more... And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it” (Isaiah 30:20–21).
There is always purpose in our trials. God wants to bless us, to help us grow. That’s why He’s given us these laws—to guide our lives and show us how to turn adversity into opportunity. Each challenge offers a chance to grow stronger, to choose faith, and to become more deeply rooted in truth.
The trials themselves are part of the blessing—they are the proving ground. Without the law, there would be no understanding of right and wrong, no contrast between sickness and health, and no reward for choosing to act in faith.
