All Good Things Come to Those who Wait

guest posts law of gestation spiritual beliefs Sep 14, 2010

When you set a goal and believe that the result will come, it's important to remember that everything coming into physical form has its own timing. This is known as the gestation period.

I find it fascinating that the longest gestation period among mammals belongs to the African elephant—18 to 22 months! On the other end of the scale, the opossum takes only 12 to 13 days. A human baby typically takes about 42 weeks to fully develop. The point is: everything unfolds in its own natural time. It can’t be rushed—it needs the right environment and time to grow properly. So be patient, and let nature do its work.

Think of it like planting a seed in rich, fertile soil. At what point would you dig it up to see if it’s bearing fruit yet? You wouldn’t! Instead, you water it, nurture it, and trust that it will grow. In its perfect time, the seed begins to sprout and take root. As long as you don’t pull it up with fear or doubt, you’ll eventually see that the seed was good and true—and that it’s attracting everything it needs to grow into a strong tree.

One of the most powerful reminders we have is this:
"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD" (Psalms 27:14).
Good things come to those who wait—not idly, but faithfully.
If your desire is planted in the right environment, gratitude, hope, and faith will nourish it. And you’ll become deeply rooted along the way.

I’ve come to know and understand this law personally. I’ve cast out many seeds too soon because of my impatience. I’ve said, “This will never come to pass,” and let discouragement win. But I’ve learned that when I let despair or fear take over, I become closed off to the very things my seed needs. It’s like planting a tree in the shadow of a house, in the middle of winter. It just won’t grow.

Thankfully, I’ve had opportunities since then to respond differently. I remembered what I had learned from those earlier missteps. I shifted my energy—from fear to faith. From doubt to expectation. I practiced patient persistence and refused to give up on my goal, no matter how long it took.

And the longer I waited, the more I focused on preparing my fields to receive rain—checking every day, trusting that the tree was growing, and eventually… it did bear fruit.
