Vision Boards
Mar 06, 2018
Over the years, I’ve gone from loving vision boards… to hating them... and back again to thinking they’re pretty great. You could say I’ve had a full-on love/hate relationship with them.
But here’s the thing: whether or not you love them too, the principle behind them works—at least, when used the right way.
Recently, some things I’ve been hoping and praying for finally came together. And because of that, I’ve found myself excited about my vision board again. My husband even commented:
“Look at that. [It happened] while you were just focusing on life, the day after putting up your new vision board.”
I smiled and told him I believe it had more to do with the intentional decisions I’d made a few days prior—decisions that actually made me want to update the board.
That’s how I see vision boards now. They aren’t “THE catalyst,” and I’ve reached goals plenty of times without one. But they’re a powerful focusing tool—especially after you've made a real decision about what you want. Once I’d mentally “staked my claim” (as I teach in the Mindset Mastery program), it was natural to think, You really ought to update your vision board.
That clarity created desire—and from that place, updating the board felt energizing and fun again.
Now, if you’re new to vision boards, let me introduce you to my friend Jennifer Dayley. She's something of an expert on Vision Boards. If you don't know much about Vision Boards, here's some information from her which I've been given permission to share with you:
Vision Boards
They’ve become pretty trendy, but the concept’s been around for decades. At their core, vision boards are tools to help you stay focused on your goals, dreams, and desires. What makes them powerful is that they engage both sides of your brain—your logical mind and your creative side—while also pulling in your senses. That’s what accelerates manifestation.
Back in 2015, Kirk got inspired to create a vision board for himself, but when he searched online, all he found were poster boards and corkboards—nothing that matched the quality of his vision. He wanted something elegant and lasting, something he’d be proud to hang up in his home.
Then, one day, he came to Jenn with big eyes and said,
“I think the Lord just gave me a design for making vision boards…”
While building the prototype in the garage, a terrible accident happened. The board slipped, pulling Kirk’s hand into a table saw. Without getting too graphic, we thought he’d lost half his hand. Luckily that was not the case, but he was told recovery would be long, & that 2 of his fingernails would probably be permanently gone.
Due to prayer and our knowledge of holistic medicine, his healing was miraculous. He also has his 2 fingernails back, & there is very little sign of any damage at all. Just enough to remind him of the lesson he learned through this experience.
FOCUS.
Vision boards are for focusing. Kirk says that in the midst of the worst pain of his life, the only thing that helped was focusing—on light, on healing, on gratitude. He never got angry about the accident. He prayed and stayed grateful the entire time—for what it taught him, for what was spared, for the miracles that followed.
Since then, they’ve built a thriving company—The Vision Board Co.™—as a division of their main company, Positive Innergy Inc™. Their custom-designed boards are now helping children, families, and professionals across the country.
Here are just a few things their family has manifested using their boards:
-
A one-owner Denali at 1/5 the cost of new
-
Two humanitarian trips to Kenya for their 18-year-old daughter—within four months when the plan was 5 years
-
$100 for their 12-year-old son—two months ahead of schedule
-
Pottery classes (at the right price, time, and location—even when none were available before!)
-
A “Purple” mattress set they’d been hoping for over a year
-
And Kirk was finally able to leave his 15-hour/night job of 14 years at UPS
I think back to Jr. High when I made that first vision board—cut-out magazine images on posterboard. I was so excited! Then I stuck it in my art folder and never looked at it again.
Vision boards don’t do the work for you. But they help you remember your ‘why,’ and they keep your body and mind aligned to do the things you need to do. Done right, they help the right resources and opportunities show up—so you can act and make your dreams happen.
While going into our full class details about how to use & amplify the results of your Vision Board is way too much for this article, I’d like to share just a few effective things you can do now!
-
Get yourself a vision board that reflects the quality of your vision
-
If you’re using poster board, create sections—don’t just collage random images everywhere
-
Hang it where you can see it daily (not behind the closet door!)
-
Look at it every day—morning and night if you can
-
Feel and imagine each goal as if it’s already yours
-
Express gratitude for what you already have
-
Believe and act in faith
“Don’t limit yourself,” said Thomas S. Monson.
“Don’t let others convince you that you’re limited in what you can do. Believe in yourself and then live so as to reach your possibilities… You can achieve what you believe you can.”
Vision boards aren’t magic—they’re mirrors. They reflect what you’ve committed to, what you believe is possible, and what you’re now choosing to focus on.
And that’s why they work.
