Dreaming Amidst Unemployment

guest posts law of perpetual transmutation overcoming adversity Dec 28, 2018

By Jennifer De Azevedo

2018 was a year of deep learning for me. The exciting new job I’d started the year with didn’t unfold the way any of us had hoped. Before long, I found myself unemployed—trying to stay calm and keep the faith while people around me kept asking things like, “Aren’t you scared?” and “What are you going to do now?”

I honestly thought that job had been the universe’s answer to my plea: something that would let me support my family while working from home. And suddenly, it was gone.

I clung hard to the belief that something better was coming out of this. It took everything in me to keep choosing faith. I’d remind myself, “We’re going to be fine. I always land on my feet.”

Without a job, I had plenty of time to think. I threw myself into learning—reading, studying, journaling, meditating, praying, visualizing the life I wanted to live. As I got better at applying universal principles, the anxiety slowly eased. Still, there was no dream job on the horizon. In fact, there wasn’t any job at all. Nothing looked like it was working… until I looked back.

What I’d been asking for was something more than just a paycheck. I wanted fulfilling work that allowed my family to thrive while using my gifts. Sounds amazing, right? But as a single mom, I never would’ve found the time—or the courage—to create something like that on my own.

Then, an unexpected opportunity came up. It seemed too good to pass up, so I jumped. And now I can see it was never meant to work out long term. It was a launching pad—a nudge to move me in a direction I never would’ve gone alone.

It pushed me to learn these principles more deeply—so I could not only benefit from them, but teach them. And suddenly, opportunities started showing up in my life that made it crystal clear how much young people—especially teens and young adults—need to understand these truths. I’d always sensed I’d be good at that work. I’d even imagined it being something I’d love. But in my old situation, it felt too scary to even try.

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation teaches that everything is either coming into form or moving out of form. When we plant a new idea and believe in it—even if we can’t see any signs yet circumstances are shifting, resources are aligning.

What looked like a devastating year was really the beginning of everything I’d been hoping for. It just didn’t look the way I expected it to. Keep the faith, and you’ll see it too.
