Thoughts Make the Person

By Dr. Stan and Cristie Gardner

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

Volumes have been written on the power of the human mind. As a Man Thinketh by James Allen. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Wake Up and Live by Dorothea Brande.
And yet, science estimates we use less than 5% of our mind’s potential.

Want to experience better health—maybe even avoid the doctor’s office altogether? Start with your thoughts.

Our thoughts are incredibly powerful. Leslie Householder captures this beautifully in The Jackrabbit Factor and Portal to Genius. What we dwell on—what we truly believe—starts shaping our reality, from the inside out.

The Link Between Thoughts and Health

In 1988, cardiologist Randolph Byrd conducted a study on the effects of prayer. Nearly 400 coronary care patients were split into two groups—one group received prayer from people they’d never met, and the other did not. The results? The prayed-for group experienced:

  • Fewer overall complications

  • Less pneumonia

  • Reduced need for ventilators

  • Lower antibiotic use

No diagnoses were shared with the prayer groups, and they only had the patients' first names. But the impact was measurable.
Thoughts and prayers made a difference.

Other studies using energy healers showed similar patterns: patients had fewer hospital visits, improved moods, and better recovery outcomes. Even bacteria growth rates can be influenced by thought—positively or negatively.

Positive thoughts can literally heal.

You Create What You Think About

The things we think about and act upon—good or bad—are what we invite into our lives. It’s not just about effort. It’s also about alignment. When our hearts and thoughts are in harmony with our higher purpose, unseen forces begin working with us to bring those desires into form.

But if we send out conflicting messages, we block the flow.

For example, someone might stand in front of the mirror and declare, “Today is going to be my best day ever!”—only to turn around and tell a coworker, “Ugh, I didn’t sleep, my back hurts, but I guess it’s better than the alternative.”
That mixed energy leads to a mixed experience.

Create a Clear, Positive Vision

One of the simplest tools for aligning your thoughts is a vision board.

Use a board of any size—poster board, cardstock, cork board—and fill it with representations of the things you want to attract into your life: photos, words, quotes, objects, smells, textures—anything that brings your desires to life. The more specific and exciting the images are, the more they activate your creative energy.

Some people include images of health, travel, fulfilling relationships, wisdom, or abundance. Whatever makes your spirit light up—include it. Put the board where you’ll see it often and let it focus your energy.

We created a vision board about 20 years ago, packed it during a move, and didn’t see it again for years. When we finally opened that box, we were stunned to find we had achieved nearly everything on it—including owning the exact car pictured, down to the color. The power of focus is real.

Don’t Forget Gratitude

An often overlooked—but critical—piece of the thought-creation process is gratitude.

Be grateful for what you have, for who you are, and for who you’re becoming.

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.” — Thornton Wilder

Gratitude opens the door to more. It’s the most immediate way to lift your vibration and invite more joy into your life.

Prepare your space, your mind, and your heart for the things you’re attracting. If you’re not prepared, those blessings might pass you by unnoticed.

And Don’t Forget to Laugh

Laughter truly is the best medicine. As Marvin J. Ashton once said:

“Greatness is best measured by how well an individual responds to the happenings in life that appear to be totally unfair, unreasonable, and undeserved.”

Sometimes life throws us curveballs. We may not always see the full picture. But when we learn to trust, to pray, and to have faith, we come to realize that even the hardest experiences are shaping us into someone greater.

Laugh when life gets weird. Smile at the detours. Embrace the lessons. And cherish the moment you’re in right now.

From Sick and Discouraged to Strong and Triumphant

Look around. What do you see?

Stacks of paper? Clutter? A to-do list longer than your arm? Christmas gifts with no place to put them? IF you have the energy, you box them and haul them to the basement or attic. Another year has passed, and maybe some of the same goals—like getting fit, gaining energy, or finally shedding those pounds—are still hanging in the air.

You might even be tempted to pull out last year’s resolution list, cross out the year, and scribble in the new one.

And that’s okay.

If you didn’t finish last year’s list, don’t beat yourself up. This message isn’t for those who’ve checked off every single goal with ease. It’s for those who still hope this year can be different.

Because it absolutely can be.

You don’t need a dramatic overhaul. You need small, consistent, specific actions—steps that take just a few minutes each day—to start transforming your life in powerful ways.

Whether your goal is physical, emotional, mental, social, or financial… you’re only a few steps away from the life you want.

Join us on this journey. Let’s walk it together. Let’s make this the year you truly feel healthy. Fulfilled. Energized. On fire for life.

To your dynamic health and vibrant energy!
