This Car Needs to GO!

Today, I want to share a personal story about the Vacuum Law of Prosperity—so you know there’s always hope.
Like many people, one of the most vivid stories that comes to mind is about a car of necessity. It wasn’t the dream car. But it filled a need and stayed within our budget, all while supporting a much bigger dream.
A Little Backstory
At the time, my husband and I owned a retail store in University Mall in Orem, Utah. This car had just enough cargo space to support our goals—like growing our business and expanding to more store locations. Specifically, it could carry 12 feet of crown molding, which was essential for my husband’s framing business.
That car helped us grow from one store to four. It was a multiplier.
But let me be honest: I hated that car.
It reeked of spoiled milk from baby bottles rolling under the seats, combined with protein shakes my husband would drink. I couldn’t stand it.
Yes, the car was making the dream happen... but pretty soon, my new dream became getting rid of the car.
And then, one hot August day, my hatred leveled up.
The A/C stopped working, so I called my husband. He told me, “Turn on the heater.”
That moment shattered a promise we’d made while dating: never own a brown car, and never drive a car without A/C.
But there I was.
Oh! And then he added, “Don’t stop the car.”
I said, “What are you talking about? What about at stoplights?”
He replied, “Keep going and turn right. If you have to go around the block, do it.”
Because if the car stopped, it would die.
Meanwhile, I had babies in the car. I was on a delivery run. And I had no way to get them home if the car gave out. I just had to make it to where John was waiting so he could do some of his “John Magic” and fix it.
As I was taking endless right turns, I decided: It’s time for a new car.
Enter the Jeep Cherokee
I stopped by a used car dealership and fell in love with a Jeep Cherokee.
No fabric seats.
Lots of air conditioning (LOTS).
It was beautiful.
And best of all? It could still fit 12 ft of crown molding with the back seats down.
Winner.
I visualized owning it. I went to that dealership so often they knew my name. I probably visited monthly.
The funny part? I didn’t feel like I belonged there. I’d walk around the lot asking myself, “What am I doing here?” But I still went.
I’d touch the car. Smell the leather. Test how I’d load the molding. I looked at the rims and realized—I’m a girl who loves tire rims!
I imagined gripping the steering wheel. I breathed in that sweet, cold air. I saw myself in that car. All. The. Time.
I visualized it while driving. I visualized it while setting my revenue goals. It became real in my mind before it was real on the driveway.
I Got Serious
I started reading books on paying off debt and learned how to be smart about it. I pulled up all our balances and credit limits and worked to keep utilization under 40% so our credit score would qualify for the car loan.
I figured out how to get more customers. And every time I made a profit, I took 10% and deposited it into a "Car Dream Account."
That’s right—I opened a separate bank account just for this dream.
I needed to see money going into it. I even kept a handwritten Excel sheet where I recorded every deposit, so I could track my progress.
When I went to the bank, I’d ask the teller to break the money into my different accounts. I don’t know what they thought—maybe they thought I was nuts—but they always helped.
One sad moment? A mentor of mine got my dream Jeep Cherokee before I did. It stung a little. But I reminded myself: talking about your dream inspires others. And that’s okay. My car was still out there.
The Turning Point
Eventually, I had the funds. I had the plan. But when John started helping me look, he wanted a different car. He was showing me other options, and I had to be very clear.
Even my best friend stepped in and said, “Helen’s whole team knows she’s been talking about this car!”
So we kept searching. We were looking for something specific:
-
White rims
-
Black leather
-
Air-conditioned seats (YES—luxury!)
-
Low miles
Then one day, John found it.
We went to see it, drove it—and it was perfect.
It felt right. It felt like home. It didn’t feel like I was “making something work.”
It felt like I belonged there—because in my mind, I’d already been driving it for months.
This dream pushed me to new levels in my network marketing business.
It helped me grow in confidence, self-esteem, and my ability to cast a vision.
This stuff WORKS.
What This Has to Do With the Vacuum Law of Prosperity
Three things happened that made all the difference:
-
I got sick of the car I didn’t like—and made the decision to get a new one.
-
I got crystal clear on what I wanted. The leather. The rims. The Jeep Cherokee. Clarity pulled the right car into my reality.
-
I created a vacuum.
The empty space (a.k.a. the dedicated bank account) signaled to the universe: I’m ready.
I also learned how to break down sales goals and reverse-engineer dreams—for myself and for my team.
