The Next Right Thing
Mar 18, 2020
In just 48 hours, I was alerted to:
-
The worst stock market crash in history
-
A global pandemic shutting down businesses across the country
-
An earthquake in Utah that knocked the trumpet right out of Moroni’s hands
-
Flash flood warnings in Arizona
-
And… three asteroids headed for Earth (yep, that one’s true. Someone even said, “Seriously? How many ways can we die here?”)
And that’s just a fraction of the alarming headlines I saw. Things only escalated from there in 2020, with riots and unrest—but those were just the first signs that the year was going to be unlike anything we’d experienced.
When life gets scary and fears start to creep in, sometimes the best thing we can do is take a little advice from Frozen 2:
Just do the next right thing.
Step by step, that’s how we’ll find our way to the best possible outcomes.
During our voluntary quarantine in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I watched Frozen 2 with my teenagers. That simple message—just do the next right thing—reminded me of a passage from Portal to Genius that says it this way:
"Go boldly toward your goal. Do what you can do today. Make progress. Fall forward. When you're truly at the end of all you can do, THAT's where you'll find the resources you need to keep going. You have all you need today to do what you need to do. If you don't have what you think you need in this moment, you don't really need it. Do your best with what you have, and you'll find that what you had, was enough."
— Leslie Householder, Portal to Genius
We all need reminders like that sometimes.
That’s exactly why I created the Rare Faith Facebook Discussion Group—a free space where anyone can join the conversation, get uplifting reminders of these principles, and be part of a supportive, positive community. No purchase required, just come as you are. I hope you’ll join us—and bring your friends, too.
While we may be keeping our distance physically to do our part and help flatten the curve, we can still stay deeply connected in meaningful ways—and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.
👉 Join the Rare Faith Discussion Group here.
And then, once you’ve joined us, take a moment to enjoy the full lyrics to the song that inspired this post.
We're all in this together. Let’s keep stepping forward in faith—one next right thing at a time.
I look forward to encouraging you in my new Rare Faith Discussion Group.
