Stop It!

By Jimi Teague

I sat on the kitchen floor, tears soaking the soft, white collar of my pink flannel robe. It was all too much to bear. As I write this now, I honestly can’t pinpoint exactly what triggered that breakdown, but the truth is—it was a mix of hormones, grief, and depression colliding into a bomb of self-pity. I was convinced I couldn’t make it through the day.

In the middle of that, I messaged a friend and poured out my feelings, waxing poetically about the state I was in. Her response was simple: “Stop it!”

On the surface, it might seem like an insensitive reply to someone struggling with depression. But for me, it was exactly what I needed. It cracked me open—not with judgment, but with a reminder of an inside joke we shared. That moment jarred me out of the spiral I thought I was trapped in. Through my tears, laughter bubbled up and a smile spread across my face. She didn’t dismiss my pain; she shifted my vibration.

The Law of Vibration teaches that everything is in a constant state of vibration, and that vibration carries signals. Think about tuning a radio—when you want to hear a particular station, you adjust the dial until you find the right frequency. Our minds work the same way. When we dwell in negative emotions, we vibrate at that frequency and attract more negativity. Have you ever entered a room and felt someone’s anger before they even spoke? Or been near someone whose kindness brought calm and peace simply by their presence?

Leslie Householder writes in Hidden Treasures: Heaven's Astonishing Help with Your Money Matters that, “According to The Law of Vibration, your thoughts control your personal vibration. Change your thoughts, get emotional about them, and you'll change what is attracted to you.”

In that moment, my friend helped me shift my mental dial to a positive frequency. She made me feel a lighter, healthier emotion—and immediately, my mind tuned into thoughts that were uplifting instead of dark and demeaning.

So here’s my challenge to you: When darkness creeps in, raise your vibration and infuse it with positive emotion.

Some ways to do this include:

  • Reading scripture

  • Listening to uplifting music or podcasts

  • Watching funny or encouraging TV shows

  • Reaching out to a friend who knows just the right thing to say

All of these help you dial in to a higher frequency—attracting positive, healthy energy and uplifting thoughts.

Be mindful of the frequency you’re tuning into. And remember: you always have the power to choose the channel your mind plays on.
