Round 10 - Blood Test News
Aug 02, 2023
Quick Update!
Surprise! Just one day after my last update, I finally received the long-awaited results from my ctDNA test—the one that detects whether cancer cells are sloughing off into the bloodstream. This test is known for being 95% accurate in spotting early signs of spreading.
On Tuesday, July 25th, I took a deep breath, opened the file... and there it was: NEGATIVE in all caps. 🙌 Hooray! For now, at least, there’s no sign of anything trying to spread. Huge relief!
Round 10 – July 31, 2023
This round started out pretty routine. At my visit, I asked my doctor if he'd seen the Natera test yet. He replied, “It hasn’t arrived.”
I smiled and said, “Well, they sent it to me. :) It was negative.”
Then I asked, “So, were you halfway expecting it to be positive or negative?”
He smiled back and said, “I was neutral. If it came back positive, we would continue treatment. If it came back negative…” he paused, still smiling, “we would continue treatment.” He explained that the purpose of the test is to monitor trends over time—so we’re off to a great start, and we’ll just keep checking to make sure it stays that way.
As of today (Day 4 of this round), side effects have been minimal. I’ve needed antihistamines the last two days for some uvula swelling that knocked me flat, and a bit of gabapentin again to ease burning in my hands and feet—but all in all, easy peasy.
Surgery Prep & Feeling Like a Lab Rat
My surgery is scheduled for September, and prep is well underway. I have upcoming appointments with cardiology, urogynecology, and my GI surgeon. Honestly, I feel a bit like a lab rat—but I’m also fascinated by everything we get to learn through these tests. It’s truly amazing.
On a Fun Note…
Last weekend, we celebrated the wedding of one of our amazing Facilitators—Bethany (Theulen) Harger! đź’Ť
The happy couple Bethany and Matt:
Bethany wrote:
"Ok, so what was originally just going to be hardly anything, just because of time, etc., has quickly and easily become an actual open house-reception following the ceremony. My cousin texted me and begged me to let her do a wedding cake. I really hadn’t planned to 'decorate', but when you stumble on the perfect thing to use as a cake topper, even if you weren’t going to to begin with…you do it! Who knew a white jackrabbit thing existed??"
She added, "How cute is this? Because straight up, it wasn’t just me, WE jackrabbitted each other. He just didn’t know the term. Yet. Ha ha!"
It turned out to be a great reunion with some of my favorite people on the planet, Cari Skrdla and Dawn Norton:
Plus, some of my other favorite people, Christy Lee, Mike Skrdla, and my own honey, Trevan:
Then, date night with our awesome out-of-town friends, Ann and Tom Ferguson:
In all, it's been a great week. Good times with good people is good medicine.
Until next time!!
