Resolving Conflict in Families
Dec 08, 2023

I started working at a residential treatment center for teens struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction. I took the job shortly after beginning my bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Services because I wanted to help families in conflict. The more I progressed in my studies, the more I learned about how to truly support and strengthen families.
Working at the treatment center has been a great opportunity to apply what I’m learning. One day, I wrote down a simple desire: to do more to help the program I was already a part of. I started talking with others about my goal to teach the families—especially the parents—how to better understand and support their teens.
As I developed a plan for how I could help, ideas started flowing. I began organizing information into a format that would allow me to teach and educate the parents more effectively. Not long after that, an opportunity opened up at work that brought me closer to that vision.
A coworker approached me about becoming the program director. It’s a role that comes with a lot of responsibility, including training the mentors who work directly with the boys. That conversation was a turning point. My desire to help families—especially by empowering parents—started taking real shape.
The more I focused on helping families resolve conflict, the more those opportunities began to appear in my life.
Not long after, I came across the Rare Faith Facilitator program, and it felt like another clear step toward fulfilling that mission. Even during the training process, I’ve already seen how these principles are helping families through the conversations I’ve had and the tools I’ve shared.
The skills I’ve learned through school, work, and life experience are all coming together as I talk with others about Rare Faith and the programs that are available. As Leslie Householder explains in Hidden Treasures, this is the Law of Cause and Effect in action: what I’ve been putting out into the world is now coming back to me.
And I’m just getting started.
