Using the Vacuum Law to Replace a Car

leslie householder’s posts spiritual beliefs vacuum law of prosperity Aug 30, 2016

One of my readers sent in an excellent question. He and his wife had been studying Hidden Treasures and wanted to use the Vacuum Law of Prosperity (as described in the final chapter) to replace their car. Here’s what they asked, followed by my reply. (Names have been changed):

Question

“I re-read Hidden Treasures, finishing it last night with my wife. When we got to the bonus chapter about nature abhorring a vacuum ...it asks what is something we own that we don't like. Well, that would be our car - we still owe close to $6,000.00 on it, but we would love a new suburban. If we paid off the car and gave it away, is that along the lines of this law, or would that be out of line? Also, if we donate the vehicle, we thought it might be best not to give it to a family member, (I don't want the whole "Oh, look how much money Joe and Susan are showing off" thing.) Anyway, we just wondered what a pro at the laws would recommend? Thanks, Joe and Susan”

My Reply

Creating a vacuum doesn’t always mean giving an object away. You can apply the “nature abhors a vacuum” principle simply by letting something go—sometimes that looks like giving it away, but it can also mean selling it at a fair price or even just a really good deal.

If you owe money on the car, and can sell it to cover your costs, then however you release it—you’ve created the vacuum. God knows you still need wheels. The point is to make room for something more reliable.

When you’re first practicing these principles, it’s wise to let yourself receive money in exchange for the resources you already have. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Now, giving it away outright could certainly work, and it could be a powerful exercise of faith. But here’s the thing: sometimes your psychology needs training wheels. Losing a set of curtains or an old rug is one thing; letting go of $6000 plus your only car might be more than your nerves can handle. No matter what you decide to give away, there is a period of time where your faith is tested. Make sure you are absolutely clear on why you are giving it away, what you are seeking in its place, and trust your gut to do the right thing to get it.

In our early days, we tested the law with smaller things—furniture, clothing, household items. Later, once our confidence grew, we applied it to bigger things—like cars.

For example:

We once had a car that was nothing but headaches. My husband griped about it for a year. Finally, after studying the principles, we decided it was time to test the Vacuum Law. Even though we didn’t know what we’d do without it, we got brave, listed it cheap, and sold it. Scary moment!

For a week he had to deal with getting himself to work - 2 1/2 hours each way. He had to bum rides and even borrow his brother’s car, which drove him crazy. But that “burn the bridges” moment forced him to focus and solve the problem once and for all.

After a week of searching, he found the perfect car on eBay Motors (believe it or not). He bid and won it for $2000 less than trade-in value, in pristine condition. The kicker? The auction ended on a Sunday. Because we avoid business on the Sabbath, we let the bid expire—trusting that if it was meant to be, it would come back around.

The very next day, the seller reached out and asked if we still wanted it. We said yes, hopped a plane to Georgia, picked it up, and drove it home. Bonus: I was able to do a workshop while there, so the trip became a write-off.

That whole experience forced us to think outside the box. Who buys a car sight unseen online? Yet everything lined up. He got exactly what he asked for, and we had a blast road-tripping home together.

So Joe and Susan, to sum up: you don’t have to give the car away to activate the law. Giving someone a fantastic deal works too. Just be absolutely clear on what you want in its place, and trust the process.

As Wallace Wattles taught:

“…in so far as your business consists in dealing with other men, …the key-thought of all your efforts must be to convey to their minds the impression of increase… You must so impress others that they will feel that in associating with you they will get increase for themselves.”
