Overcoming Mistrust - We Must In Order To Prosper

Let’s say “Sam” is new to the world of Attraction. He would have to be—because if he were already well-versed in it, we wouldn’t be talking about him.

Sam is here because he has a problem with trust.

Trust is one of the foundational principles in the Laws of Attraction: we write a Goal Statement, we imagine how we’ll feel when it becomes real, we feel gratitude for what we’re about to receive, and—we trust. We trust that it’s already on its way.

But trust is something that’s either learned in childhood… or it isn’t.

A child who is repeatedly hurt or neglected in the one place they should feel safe—their home—does not grow up with an easy relationship to trust. Whether it’s verbal, emotional, physical, religious, or sexual abuse, or even chronic neglect—any betrayal of that sacred trust instills fear, not courage. It plants doubt, not hope.

The result? More often than not—and yes, there are exceptions—this leads to lowered self-esteem, lowered expectations, and lowered achievement.

So let’s come back to Sam.

Sam grew up with one goal: survive. Maybe another too: make someone love me. But that’s a whole other conversation.

Still, Sam made it. Maybe he graduated high school. Maybe he even got through college. Maybe he earned a degree. Honestly, that’s remarkable—superlative work for someone who’s been carrying the weight of lowered expectations since childhood.

Sam enters the workforce. Maybe he’s already been working minimum-wage jobs just to stay afloat. But now, he starts to look around. He sees the “achievers”—the ones who entered career-track majors, the ones whose parents paid for school, the ones who didn’t have to work nights after class. They’re getting the internships, the job offers, the promotions. They’re making more money. They’re rising faster.

And Sam?

He’s working hard. But he’s not rising. He’s not getting the raises outside of the company schedule. And he starts to wonder: What’s wrong with me?

But it’s not Sam’s ability. It’s not his intelligence. It’s not even his effort.

It’s his perception.

It’s the way he thinks about things.

It’s not that Sam is incapable of thinking positively—he absolutely can. But it doesn’t stick for long. It doesn’t take root deeply enough to show results before he loses faith again.

So what’s really holding Sam back?

Mistrust. Deep, old, bone-level mistrust.

He’s seen enough to believe the system is rigged. And honestly, it has been—at least in the world he grew up in.

So what’s the way forward?

It starts with something very simple, but absolutely essential:

Be willing to change.

Not a surface-level commitment, but a cellular one. A soul-level willingness.

So I say this to you, Sam:
Every day—once when you wake up, and once before you go to sleep—look inward and say:
“I am willing to change.”

That’s it.
Don’t worry about how.
Don’t worry about what comes next.
Just start there.

Before you begin any program or goal or attempt to transform your circumstances, be willing to transform yourself. Because nothing around you will change until something within you does.

And that is where the magic begins.

Once your heart has softened enough to let that willingness in, the next step is to start healing your relationship with trust.

Yes, this work is internal—and it’s going to take you to some deep places. You’ll need to face the pain. And you’ll need to find forgiveness in your deepest heart for those who hurt you most.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean excusing what they did.
It doesn’t mean they aren’t accountable.
It means you are no longer carrying the burden.

Forgiveness doesn’t set them free. It sets you free.

Let them go.
Give yourself your wings.

Then, from that freer place, you can begin the process: imagine. Dream. Write your Goal Statement. Trust that it’s coming. And take aligned action with courage.

Because—remember the Law of Vibration—it’s already coming to meet you. That means, by law, it is so.

But to hold onto it long enough for it to arrive?

That takes trust.

And now, you’re learning how to build it.
