No Blood in Turnips

This quote from Wayne Dyer popped up in my Facebook memories today, so I made it look pretty and reposted it.
Funny enough, it felt perfectly in line with last night’s Weekly Forum discussion. I ended up posting the following on my own Facebook page too:
"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."
~ Galatians 6:7
What you put in is what comes out—whether you're filling your heart and mind with truth and goodness, or with noise and negativity.
I mean, let’s be real—I can’t throw in all the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies and expect to end up with raisin bread.
I can’t fill a glass with water and then expect to sip on juice (unless Jesus is standing right there!).
I can’t pour coconut oil into my gas tank and expect the car to get me anywhere.
What’s planted will grow.
As a former co-worker used to say, “You can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip.” And it’s true—no matter how hard you try or what method you use, if it’s not in there, it’s not coming out.
The same goes for my mind.
The challenge is, sometimes it’s harder to filter the “bad stuff” out. It might sneak in through a negative co-worker… or a family member who drains you… or even the music or shows playing in the background. It builds up quietly if you're not careful.
That’s exactly why I don’t watch the news—and haven’t for most of my adult life. The news is someone else’s version of reality, and I don’t need that programming. I want my view of life filtered through something far more reliable.
For me, the Word of God is the filter.
Am I perfect at it? Absolutely, positively, unequivocally NO. But I try every day. Some days I hit closer to the mark than others, but that’s my goal. That’s the desire of my heart.
And with that, I’ll leave you with this verse that’s carried me through so much:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil."
~ Proverbs 3:5-7
