Lowrider Van to Success- Pushing Past Fear
Apr 19, 2020
By Heather Gibson
My van was packed to the brim, looking like a lowrider ready to roll. It was time to go—and I was terrified. I wanted to back out, but I couldn’t face those who had helped me prepare for this moment if I did.
There were so many reasons for my fear.
I was driving cross-country through treacherous weather, haunted by memories of a near-death experience on icy roads years before.
I was heading to my very first event to promote a pet product I truly believed in. After seven years of breeding, experimenting with different foods and supplements, I finally found a company that made a real difference in my animals. I knew I had to share it—with breeders and pet lovers alike.
The problem? I didn’t believe in myself.
I was afraid of failing, of being laughed at or shunned. Though I’d be surrounded by peers, most didn’t know me well. I feared that all the credibility I’d worked so hard to build in the community could be damaged.
This was a pivotal moment in my life!
I had created an incredible dream in my mind: changing pets’ and people’s lives, spending more time with my kids and animals, and leaving behind a stressful job I hated. That dream was beginning to take shape—becoming real.
But that vision would fade if I didn’t get in the van and take that first big step.
What if I had decided it was too hard and walked away?
Now, over two years later, I look back and am terrified at how close I came to not taking that trip—or the next one, or the ones that followed. My confidence in myself and my Heavenly Father has grown so much.
It hasn’t been an easy path. New anxieties still come and go. But the rewards have been huge: spiritual growth, self-development, new friendships, transforming lives, financial gains, and more.
All of it hinged on having a dream—and keeping forward motion!
The Law of Perpetual Transmutation tells us that everything is either moving into physical form or moving out of it. Our goals and dreams must follow this process:
Non-existent → spark of an idea → mental (or spiritual) creation → physical creation.
If we stop moving forward at any point, the creation process reverses back toward non-existence. There’s no standing still in dream creation.
Think of an old-school jukebox: you put in a quarter, pick a song, and the machine moves the record from storage to the player.
What if, just as the record nears the player, you press another button? The arm pulls the record back and starts moving a new one. If you kept doing this, you’d never hear a single note play.
Your life works the same way!
Holding on to your vision is the key to making your dreams real. Here are three simple practices to help you keep that vision alive.
If any of these stir up negative emotions you can’t shift, stop the exercise—that will only reinforce those doubts and push your dream out of creation.
-
Create vision boards with YOU in the pictures. Feel the emotions you’d have if your dream were already real. What does it look like, feel like, taste like, smell like, sound like? Immerse yourself in that feeling often. Repetition is powerful!
-
Speak affirmations out loud in the present tense. Use “I AM” statements. For example:
“I am thrilled to be in Hawaii with my family. We’ve wanted this trip for so long, and being together is amazing. I love feeling the salty ocean spray on my face, hearing my family’s laughter beside me, and smelling the sweet BBQ waiting after the swim. This is exactly what I hoped for.”
Repeat these statements multiple times a day. -
Live your dream in your mind. Each morning and night, step into your dream like it’s already happened. Walk through it with vivid detail, tapping your creativity to make it come alive.
Remember: surround yourself with positive emotions as you do this work.
With focus and effort, you can create the life you want!
