Life is Not a Sprint

help with finances leslie householder’s posts Sep 22, 2011

Be anxiously engaged in a good cause—but pace yourself. Because life isn’t a sprint… it’s a marathon.

Have you ever been accused of working too hard or running too fast?

Sometimes fast is good. But in business and in life, too fast can backfire.

So how do you know the difference?

Back in the middle of the Great Recession, I hit a wall. We were watching our investments evaporate—even with all the mindset principles I had learned, taught, and written about in my books. I didn’t know what my next move should be.

That’s when I sat down with one of my business mentors. He listened carefully and then pointed out something I couldn’t see for myself.

I had a blind spot.

And once he helped me see it… I was astounded. (Don’t you love those epiphany moments?)

Recognizing it—and applying what I learned—sparked a powerful shift in my business and life:

  • I feel more in control of my time

  • I feel less overwhelmed

  • I have more choice in how I spend my time

  • There’s more order in my environment

  • My family relationships are stronger than ever

  • I feel more peace than I’ve felt in over a decade (and I thought I was already doing pretty well!)

If you’ve read The Jackrabbit Factor, Hidden Treasures, or Portal to Genius, then you are going to love the next piece of the puzzle: The Zigzag Principle.

Honestly? I wish I had understood it before writing my books.

It’s a complete paradigm shift—especially for those of us who run too fast and try too hard. (Guilty! 🙋‍♀️)

I thought I had already learned my lesson about avoiding burnout. But what I learned from Rich was the reminder I didn’t know I still needed.

And now, his phenomenal book is finally here:
The Zigzag Principle: The Goal-Setting Strategy That Will Revolutionize Your Business and Your Life, published by McGraw-Hill. I’m convinced it’s going to be a bestseller.

It’s all about knowing when it’s actually better to move away from the goal. (Yes, you read that right.)

I encourage you—I invite you—to order this book and read it. It will absolutely change the way you approach success, not only in business, but in life.

It’s an inspiring read, yes. But more importantly, it’s packed with practical tools and counterintuitive wisdom that will help you achieve:

Faster Profitability
Greater Longevity
And deeper fulfillment along the way

Here’s what I said about it officially:

"The Zigzag Principle delivers the epiphany of the decade for business owners. These strategies are non-intuitive, but proven to be solid and dependable, which is why this is such an important work. Not only will you profit faster than you thought possible, you'll also enjoy greater balance and fulfillment in the process."
