Life is Like the Internet

Do you ever feel like getting what you want in life is hard—or completely out of your control? Wouldn’t it be nice if there were an easier way… a reliable system you could actually follow that works every time?
Good news: there is an easier way. And believe it or not, it’s as simple as using the internet.
Think of your life like the internet: it holds all the information, images, and experiences you could ever want. You just need to learn how to use the tools available to you—the right way.
Take a look at your screen right now. What you’re seeing is called a browser. It’s what displays the websites you choose to visit. This is your reality—the outward expression of the internal choices you’ve made.
At the top of that browser, you’ll see an address bar. That’s where you type in the exact website you want to go to. You don’t end up on Google if you typed in WebMD. You go where you direct it to go. That address bar? It’s like your belief system.
Our beliefs come from all kinds of sources: parents, teachers, books, media, culture. Most of them are based on past experience—ours or someone else’s. And just like we can type in a new web address, we can change our beliefs… but we don’t like to. We’re afraid of ending up somewhere we don’t want to be, so we stick to the “websites” we know—even if we don’t like what’s on the screen. So our reality stays the same.
But how do we change what shows up on our screen? How do we make sure the address we enter leads us to the life we actually want?
Well, that’s where the search engine comes in—one of the greatest internet tools ever created. Instead of typing an exact web address, you enter a keyword—something you’re curious about. Then the engine scours the internet and brings you back a list of the most relevant results. You don’t have to search every corner of the internet—your results are narrowed down and most of the time, the best answers are right there at the top.
Your mind works the same way.
Once you learn how to use it, you can “enter” whatever you want to know or create—and your subconscious goes to work. It pulls from memory, environment, intuition, and infinite intelligence to offer up answers, ideas, opportunities, and paths forward. It gives you a menu of “websites” to click on—possible directions your life can take.
And here’s the key: your mind runs these searches through questions.
Your mind hates unanswered questions, so the moment you ask one, it immediately starts seeking answers—even if you’re not aware of it. The problem is, most people are typing in the wrong search terms.
Let’s say you hate your job. If you’re asking, “Why can’t I find a better job?” or “Why do I always get stuck in dead-end jobs?”… your mind will find the answers to those questions: Because you’re not qualified enough. Because you’ve never been lucky. Because the economy’s bad. That’s what it will show you—because that’s what you asked it to find.
(By the way, “why” questions tend to keep us stuck. They’re reactive and often lead to self-blame. A better strategy? Ask how, where, or what questions instead—they’re forward-focused and solution-oriented.)
So instead, ask questions like:
-
What would my dream job actually look like?
-
How can I find work that excites me?
-
Where should I start looking?
-
Who might I know who could help?
Do you see how different those questions feel? They shift your mind into productive, hopeful territory—and suddenly, new options appear.
The more you practice asking the right questions, the more your “browser”—your reality—begins to shift. It may not happen instantly, but keep following the trail of answers. And when an idea or opportunity pops up that feels right? Click on it. Take action.
Trust the process. Happy surfing.
