Know When Success is on its Way With the Law of Rhythm

guest posts law of rhythm Jul 22, 2008

By Cameran Hadlock

I want to share a remarkable principle of the Universe with you: the Law of Rhythm. I was first introduced to this law by Leslie Householder, author of the bestselling book The Jackrabbit Factor. She explained it like this: life’s movements are cyclical—our lives will have ups, and they will have downs.

Understanding the Law of Rhythm can bring so much peace. It reassures us that when things are hard, they must eventually get better. If you’ve ever needed hope that things won’t always feel the way they do now, this law invites you to expect change—not fear it.

Now you might be wondering, “Wait, if life has ups and downs, does that mean my good times will eventually become bad times?” I get it. But here’s the key: rhythm means change, not necessarily bad change.

Think about ocean tides. They rise and fall in a gentle, constant rhythm—and for many, that movement is calming, not chaotic. Or think of a roller coaster—the rise and fall is what makes it thrilling! Even a baby’s swing, rocking back and forth, brings comfort and peace, helping her drift off to sleep.

So yes, life moves. But that movement doesn’t have to mean going from good to bad. In fact, what if the rhythm is simply good becoming better?

Imagine this: what we once saw as the “high point” of our lives might later become a gentle low—not because it lost value, but because we’ve grown and risen even higher. We don’t discard the good times; we just build upon them. With time, what once felt like the peak becomes the foundation for something even better.

Let me share a personal example.

When I began dating my future wife, then got engaged, and later married her, it felt like one long, joyful ride on the rhythm of life. It was exciting and full of meaning. A few years into marriage, we were still happy—but we both sensed something was missing. We’d settled into a comfortable rhythm, but it started to feel like a plateau. Not because anything had gone wrong—things were still good—but we craved more connection, more depth, more joy.

So we made a conscious choice: we decided to ride the rhythm upward again. We started laughing more, going on adventures, talking more deeply, and being more intentional about how we spent time together. And you know what? That plateau became a launching point. We didn’t go backward—we moved forward, and higher.

We still use the Law of Rhythm in our marriage today. Life will always ebb and flow, but when we understand the rhythm, we can ride it with awareness—and even with joy.

Now that you know about this beautiful law, I invite you to apply it.

📝 Write down three experiences you’ve had—or are currently having—and explore them through the lens of the Law of Rhythm. Where have things been better? Where are they gently moving? What intentional shifts could you make to invite your next "better" into view?

And finally: commit to the change. Start now.

Because your rhythm doesn’t have to be from good to bad—it can be from good to even better.
