How Following Inspiration Led Me to a Great Purchase

Several months ago, my grandma broke her ankle and needed a wheelchair. We searched everywhere—online, in stores—but couldn’t find one that fit our budget. Eventually, I let it go. I made peace with the idea of paying to rent one instead, figuring that as long as she had what she needed, it would be okay.
The very next morning, we went into town to pick up something my son had bought from someone on Facebook. Coordinating with this seller had been a whole saga—we’d already rescheduled five or six times. Halfway there, my son realized he had lost his wallet. I wasn’t about to reschedule again, so I agreed to get some cash out and he could pay me back later.
We were almost to the meetup spot, and the route to the nearest ATM took us down a road I don’t normally drive. As we passed a garage sale, I felt an unexpected nudge to stop. Now, for context: I despise garage sales. And we were already behind schedule. But the feeling was strong—I needed to stop.
At the ATM, I felt another nudge to take out $20 more than I needed. No explanation. Just a quiet push to do it. We met the seller, picked up my son’s item, and on the way home, I followed the signs back to that yard sale. I got out, still unsure why I was even there—and right in front of me was a brand new wheelchair. Fifteen dollars. I couldn’t believe it. I stood there crying tears of gratitude as I loaded it into the truck.
This experience taught me something powerful: I had done everything I could do. I looked at all the usual places—retailers, websites, even secondhand options on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Then I let it go. I gave it over to God and honestly felt at peace with paying to rent one if it meant my grandma was taken care of. But I also stayed open to inspiration—and acted on it when it came. I listened. I followed the nudge. I took action. And because I had listened at the ATM, I had the exact amount of money I needed when the opportunity showed up.
Had I ignored that quiet nudge, I would’ve missed it completely.
So often, I’ve set a goal and then obsessed over how it was going to happen. Who do I need to contact? Where will the money come from? How will it all come together? But the truth is, those answers are rarely mine to know in advance. Not having them would spiral me into doubt and discouragement.
This experience was a gentle reminder: I don’t have to know all the answers. I just have to do the next right thing. If I stay calm, trust God, and follow those nudges, things unfold in ways I couldn’t plan if I tried. That’s when goals become reality.
So here’s my challenge to you: When you’ve done all you can do, hand it over. Stay in faith. Believe that your needs will be met, and be willing to act when inspiration comes. That’s when the real magic happens.
