Embracing Commitment; Overcoming Fear

mastery student spotlight Aug 14, 2025

Meet Shelise Grigg, Mindset Mastery Honors Graduate. Her journey through the Mindset Mastery course shows how faith and determination can transform goals into reality. From finding small wins to embracing big changes, Shelise’s story is a powerful reminder of how patience and action can lead to remarkable personal growth.

Phase 1 Experiment:

Shelise began her journey by setting a simple goal of finding nickels face up. Her success in finding these small coins quickly increased to discovering dimes and quarters. She said:

“I started out looking for nickels face up. I found my first one getting back into my car at Target. It had been months/years since really noticing money. I started to get dimes next. I felt like God was telling me that it is ok to ask for more. I asked God for a quarter face up by Saturday and then got 5 face up on Sunday.”

It is absolutely okay to ask God for more. Often, we limit ourselves by thinking that we shouldn't ask for too much, but God delights in blessing us abundantly. By asking for more, we demonstrate our faith in His generosity and willingness to provide beyond our expectations. It's a reminder that God’s resources are limitless, and He is eager to give us what we need and more, when we believe and trust in His timing.

Shelise shared,

"The lesson I took from this: God is happy to give you more and sometimes you just need to believe and be patient.”

Phase 2 Goal:

In Phase 2, Shelise set a more challenging goal related to her health and fitness. Her written goal was:

“I'm so excited that I have coaches and a fitness plan that is just right for me. I was surprised at how it all came together and it feels so good and right. I'm grateful for Heavenly Father's awareness of my needs and His guidance to help me find the right people and programs for me.”

Expressing excitement and gratitude in a goal statement helps keep you motivated and connected to what truly matters. When you're genuinely excited, it fuels your motivation, keeps you focused on the outcome, and sets up an attractive force that brings you the resources and inspired ideas you need. Gratitude, reinforces a positive mindset, and helps you to better discern your Father in Heaven's guidance along the way.

Together, excitement and gratitude create a vibrational frequency that more naturally attracts what you need into your space, and makes it easier to wait for what you asked for with enthusiasm and anticipation.

Ultimately, Shelise felt that the right resources she needed began to flow to her easily.

“I was given referrals to PT, Massage therapists, Fascia therapists, TMJ specialists, Chiropractic and a Health Coach.”

Facing Fear:

While participating in the Mindset Mastery course, Shelise confronted her fear of not being loved by her family. During one period, she found herself in a contentious situation with her sister. She shared:

“I was able to not freak out when my sister assumed something about me that was completely wrong. She stopped talking to me on the phone. I was able to remind myself that ‘I am surrounded by people who love me and I love them.’"

Remaining calm despite external challenges is not an easy task. When working towards goals, we often encounter obstacles or criticism from others that can derail our focus and motivation. Maintaining composure in these situations allows us to stay centered and keep our attention on our objectives.

By not letting others' actions or opinions disturb our peace, the way Shelise did, we can think more clearly and make more effective decisions. This steadiness helps us to manage setbacks, adapt strategies, and keep moving forward despite difficulties. Ultimately, staying calm under pressure supports our persistence and resilience and helps us maintain a clear view of our vision, and receive inspired guidance on our next right steps.

Terror Barrier Breakthrough:

When asked if she experienced a terror barrier during the course, Shelise admitted that in the past, she had not been able to get herself to work with a health coach. She shared:

“I made the appointment to start a fitness plan with a coach, which is something I wasn't able to get myself to do 9 months ago.”

Making a committed action step is crucial for breaking through a terror barrier–shifting our mindset from fear to action. Like Shelise, when we commit to a specific action, we confront our fears directly, which helps to diminish their power over us. This commitment forces us to take tangible steps toward our goals, moving us beyond the paralysis of fear.

Shelise's Advice:

For those facing fear, Shelise offers this advice:

"It is so worth it to face your fear and act anyway. The confidence comes the more you act."

Shelise feels that her experience going through the program was transformative. She wrote:

“I am so excited to have taken the Mindsett Mastery Class with Kathleen Taylor.  She is great and lives what she teaches! So happy to meet such great people in this setting. I have achieved so much and I am so happy to continue putting these principles into action. I believe in miracles and angels!”

Thank you Shelise, for sharing your journey with us!
