Disciplined vs. Adaptable

mastery student spotlight Aug 04, 2025

Meet Andrea Mabey, Mindset Mastery Graduate. Andrea's Mindset Mastery journey shows us that sometimes we need to maintain some flexibility when pursuing set goals.

Exploring Inconsequential Goals

Andrea’s initial Phase 1 experiment involved setting six goals. After she achieved four of them, she stated:

“I felt that the answer to one of my goals was not exactly what I wrote but a better fit to what I needed at the time.”

Strict adherence to goals is sometimes necessary for staying on track and meeting important deadlines. It helps keep us focused and ensures that we reach our key milestones.

However, sometimes flexibility is needed when things don’t go as planned. Adapting our goals or methods can help us overcome unexpected challenges and address obstacles effectively, without losing sight of the ultimate objective.

Finding the right balance means knowing when to stay disciplined and when to adjust our approach. Critical goals might need a firm hand, while being flexible can help us navigate changing circumstances and keep moving forward.

Achieving Big Things Through Bite-Sized Goals

In Phase 2, Andrea set a goal to find a job. Although her first job application did not result in success, Andrea's determination led her to apply for a second position. At this point, her vision had shifted from simply getting a job to being an influence that helps others rise up.

Despite facing a lot of fear, Andrea had this to share:

“I discovered ways to achieve my goal without money. I began working on a very meaningful project that will inspire and leave a legacy of faith to my posterity.”

Often, reaching our goals isn’t about having money, but about being creative and resourceful. While cash can be helpful, many goals can be achieved by using our skills, building connections, or finding clever solutions. When we focus on what we already have and think outside the box, it is possible to make real progress without needing a big financial investment.

Thinking creatively helps us tackle our challenges and reach our objectives.

Facing Fear with Faith

Andrea's approach to overcoming fear and thinking truth in spite of appearances involved continuously revisiting and affirming her own truths. She learned that persistent fear could be managed by consistently focusing on thinking truth in advance, allowing her to overcome the limitations imposed by appearances.

She stated,

“I continue to face fear and revisit my truth often.”

Breaking Through the Terror Barrier

Throughout the course, Andrea achieved a significant breakthrough by acknowledging her terror barriers and remaining resolute in her goals. Despite any challenges, when she faced her terror barrier, she shared:

“I recognized it and didn't give up on my goal.”

Fear can be a powerful obstacle, but it’s no reason to abandon our goals. Often, fear is just the signal that a breakthrough is near. By facing it head-on, we simply push through that terror barrier and advance toward our goals.

Andrea’s Advice for Conquering Fear

“Anxiety happens when you have two conflicting ideas in your subconscious at the same time. When I replace fear with faith, I am more proactive and hopeful. I find the way to succeed.”

Andrea’s journey shows that fear and obstacles, while inevitable, are opportunities for growth. By staying flexible, using creativity, and maintaining faith, we can navigate challenges and achieve our goals.

Thank you, Andrea, for demonstrating the value of perseverance and the need to balance discipline with adaptability.
