Being Tuned In

Everything around us is in a constant state of vibration. Often these vibrations are invisible — we can’t see them, but we know they’re there. When we use the internet, vibrations are carrying information to our computers. When we use our cell phones, vibrations allow us to communicate with others. When we listen to the radio, we’re tuning into vibrations.

But the greatest vibration — and the one we have the most control over — is our own body.

Our bodies are constantly vibrating. Have you ever walked into a room and immediately sensed whether someone was sad, angry, or happy? That’s because they’re sending out an energy, a vibration, that fills the space around them. Sometimes we step into a room full of people having fun, and without even trying, we feel our own energy rise to match theirs.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Misery loves company.” Why do we so easily fall into the energy of the people around us? Because we naturally sync up with the vibrations we're exposed to. Depending on who we’re around, we can either lift ourselves higher or get pulled down. We tend to attract people who match our own vibration — simply because it feels familiar. This same principle applies to every other area of life as well.

We are always putting out a vibration — and that vibration comes back to us.

Through the Law of Vibration, I’ve learned that whatever energy I focus on will eventually return to me. If I choose to dwell on a bad experience and get really emotional about it, I’ll attract more negativity. But if I focus on the life I want — on the good things I hope to create — then opportunities and blessings will start to find their way to me, because I’m intentionally aligning myself with them.

Let me share a story.

Fourteen years ago, my husband and I were living in California. At the time, he had just become a General Manager for Papa John’s Pizza. One morning, we were getting ready to take family pictures when he went to start the car — and it wouldn’t start. We were stuck. He needed to get to work that evening — there was no one to cover for him — but driving an hour to work seemed impossible without a working car.

He was able to coax the car enough to reach a nearby dealership. All the while, we stayed focused on staying positive and trusting that things would work out. The dealership happened to be near my grandmother-in-law’s acreage, where my husband had grown up. As it turned out, the dealership owner knew my father-in-law and was willing to work out a deal: if we could put down $300, we could drive away in a minivan.

The problem? We had exactly $300 — and it was supposed to last us for food, gas, and diapers until the next payday.

Still holding onto our positive vibration, we went home to think it over. While we were at home, a sweet older woman from our church stopped by unexpectedly. She said she had felt prompted to drop off a few things — and among those things were Walmart gift cards totaling $300.

I’ll never forget that moment. She had no idea of our situation — our car had only broken down that morning — but she had felt inspired to bring exactly what we needed. With the gift cards, we were able to buy the food and diapers we needed, and use the cash for the van. My husband made it to work that night.

What would have happened if we had fallen into negativity?
I truly believe we might have blocked that blessing. Staying positive kept us open to receiving exactly what we needed — through God’s help.

Sometimes we unintentionally stop good things from happening because we stay stuck in the vibration that "everything bad happens to me" — and as a result, we attract even more negativity.

The beautiful thing about the Law of Vibration is this: we can always change our vibration to attract something better.

If we’re happy with how life is going, we simply stay in the vibration we’re already in, doing the things that have brought us here. But if we want to see more good things show up, we can take simple steps to raise our vibration — like feeling genuine gratitude for every blessing we already have.

We can start changing our lives just by becoming more aware of what we're attracting — noticing what we love, and gently shifting away from what we wish were different.
