Assume that Everyone Loves You

For many years, I felt completely out of control with my eating—and I was sure everyone else could see it, too. This self-doubt and fear of what others might be thinking kept me stuck for so long. The crazy thing is, it wasn’t even true! It was just a thought I had repeated so many times that my subconscious mind turned it into a program and played it on a loop. The truth is, people weren’t thinking I was out of control—and if they were, it was only because they were running their own programs of insecurity that had nothing to do with me.

The real problem was that I didn’t understand how the mind works—or the incredible power of thought—until many years later.

Because I didn’t know I had these programs, or that I had the ability to change them, I stayed stuck.

Then one day, I was visiting with a dear friend who was in her mid-seventies. Her husband had recently passed away from cancer, and she was just beginning her own chemotherapy treatments. She had raised 12 kids, had a whole army of grandkids, and had seen a lot of life! I knew she understood what "hard" felt like. I asked her how she could stay so happy through everything she had endured.

Her answer completely caught me off guard. More than 15 years later, it’s still some of the best advice I’ve ever received.

She simply said, "I just assume that everyone loves me!"

What?! You can do that??

I immediately asked, "But what if they don’t?"

She smiled and said, "I don't worry about the ones that don't."

At first, I had no idea what to do with that advice. But I thought about it a lot. I started telling myself that phrase over and over, even though I didn’t believe it. It felt like I was just pretending—but I kept going because I saw how real it was for her.

Little by little, something amazing happened. The more I told myself that everyone loved me, the easier it became to be around people. I could sit by strangers, strike up conversations, and even joined an aerobics class that I loved—and eventually taught!

I was finally learning to stop worrying so much about what other people thought of me.

Now, you might be wondering, "What in the world does this have to do with creating better health in my life?"

The answer? It has EVERYTHING to do with it!

It takes faith to create the health you desire.
Faith in God—that He will lead and guide you every step of the way.
Faith in yourself—that you can hear and act on the inspirations He sends.

And to live in faith, you have to practice pushing away doubt and fear.
God wants to bless you with the health you’re seeking, but when you're full of self-doubt and fear about what others might be thinking, you block the very help He's trying to send.
Faith and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time.

As the Law of Perpetual Transmutation teaches, “circumstances and things are perpetually coming or going according to your thoughts” (Mindset Mastery, Trevon and Leslie Householder, p.11).

First, decide exactly what you want your health to look like, and ask God for His help in creating it.
This takes faith. This takes trust.
And it has nothing to do with anyone else—so no comparing yourself or worrying about what others expect of you.

It’s so important to write down your vision statement.
Write it as if it has already happened, and be sure to express gratitude for how it feels to live in the body you’re creating. Choose a date you hope to accomplish it by, and write it at the top of your statement. (Leslie Householder calls this "staking your claim.")

Once it’s written, post it where you can see it and read it several times a day. Let yourself feel gratitude for what it will be like to live in your healthy, vibrant body.

Remember: you're building the life you want—not competing with anyone else.

And it’s so much easier to stay on your path when you just assume that everyone loves you—and you don’t worry about the ones who don’t.
