Americans... Take Heart

leslie householder’s posts Jul 16, 2012

I saw a comment on Facebook from someone who seems to have given up on our country.

So I wanted to share why I’m still hopeful.

Truthfully, when people throw in the towel on where this nation is headed, they’re not helping. Yes, it may take an act of God to turn things around—but the least we can do is live in a way that qualifies us for that kind of divine intervention. It may come to that. And if it does, that’s okay. Because I believe in God. I believe He loves this country and the freedom it was founded on.

So how do we qualify for that kind of help? It starts with getting curious, concerned, and educated.

Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson once said we must:

  • Teach our children that freedom is a gift from God (not man),

  • Study the Constitution through the eyes of the Founding Fathers,

  • Prioritize strong, healthy families, and

  • Get involved in our communities—supporting candidates and laws that align with the principles of liberty.

One of the big issues we face is that today, when someone takes an oath of office, they swear to uphold the Constitution as it is, not as it was intended. So no matter how good or honest a candidate may be, we’re still dealing with laws and amendments that have slowly chipped away at the original balance of power—a balance that was meant to protect us from overreaching leadership, no matter which party is in charge.

This isn’t about personalities or political parties—it’s about principles.

We the PEOPLE must understand correct principles. That’s how we’ll begin to see through the spin, the fear tactics, the half-truths, and misleading legislation. We’ll be able to recognize whether core principles are being honored or violated—by our leaders, our laws, and those who want to lead.

As we become more principled and better informed, we’ll be empowered to do our small but vital part to shape a future we can be proud to pass on to our children and grandchildren.

I believe God will help us. But how far things unravel before that help comes—and whether we’ll be able to turn things around peacefully—depends on each of us. It starts with education.

Be wise. Don’t depend on the media or government-sponsored programs to teach you or your kids about freedom’s foundation. More often, you’ll hear about the social programs we “need” to stay safe and protected—but at what cost?

So which will it be?

A Vote for Broccoli.

That’s enough for now. More thoughts to come as the debate continues.

In the meantime...

God bless America!
